| General information about Medemblik
Medemblik is the smallest, prettiest and oldest city of West-Friesland along the former Zuiderzee (IJsselmeer), approximately 40 km north of Amsterdam. It received the privileges of a town in 1289. Nowadays, the city counts about 7.600 inhabitants. Due to its rich history, Medemblik is an interesting place to visit. The picturesque town city reminds you of the old days. In addition there are many tourist attractions, such as harbours, castle Radboud, a typical Dutch flourmill “de Herder”, many museums and establishments.

Originally, Medemblik is the Dutch regatta center. It is the home base for international sailing events, such as the SPA Regatta, European and World Championships in several classes, and of yachting events like the 24-hours race. This position is due to the sheltered location at the windward shore of the IJsselmeer, to the attraction of the historical city of Medemblik, and to the effort of several organising committees of sailing events.
Regatta Center Medemblik
In order to enforce the position of the Netherlands as an international sailing nation, a sailing center with modern facilities was required.
Preferably in Medemblik!
The requirements for a new sailing center were only achievable in combination with a large harbour. That is how the new harbour including the international sailing center was effected. It was put into use in April 1999. The combination with a sailing center guarantees an active and enjoyable harbour, leading in the sailing sport. It is managed by the Regatta Center
Medemblik.

International Sailing Center Medemblik (ISCM)
The International Sailing Center Medemblik is situated at the northern part of the venue close to the harbour entrance. During the SPA Regatta, the ISCM will be the regatta office including the protest rooms. The racing area is non-tidal and has fresh water. In addition to a harbour and a sailing center, the venue offers a restaurant with pavement and a watersports store.
