After yesterday’s light wind conditions, the final races of today could be sailed according to schedule.
INTERESTING FACTS SPA REGATTA 2003
- This year’s SPA Regatta counts 170 starts.
- The international jury warned two 49-ers in case of not affixing the bow numbers
properly.
- 28 protests were heard by the jury.
- Six teams were disqualified.
- Five teams were given redress.
- The international jury gave 42 penalties for infringements of the pumping
rule.
- Seven daily Dutch newspapers and one weekly covered the SPA Regatta.
- Over 300 articles were published during the week.
- The major public broadcaster in the Netherlands, NOS Studio Sport, broadcasted
daily.
- NOS Radio broadcasted until Sunday 54 minutes.
- This week, the SPA Regatta organization has introduced 250 guests into the world of Olympic
sailing.
- After the Netherlands, Germany sent most competitors (57), followed by Great Britain (50) and France (45).
- Remarkable participating countries are India, Venezuela and
Bahrain.
- Turkey, winner of yesterday’s Eurovision Song Contest, is competing with 9
sailors.
CRANE
Sorry Star sailors, the second crane was scheduled late, a lesson for next
year!
PARTY AT THE REGATTA CENTER
The SPA Regatta organization, visitors and sailors had a great time dancing and singing yesterday evening. In order to promote the Polish Gdynia Sailing Days, the organization sponsored a disco and karaoke.
MEASURER
The international measurer inspected the boats before, during and after the races. He was able to correct infringements of class rules in many cases before the start. But once the race was on, he had to disqualify 12 boats on the spot. For minor infringements the boats were put on a to do list. Those teams had to solve the infringement before the next race.

MEDIA EXPOSURE
Today, the Dutch tv channel SBS 6 has shooted for a new watersports program. The SPA Regatta special will be broadcast in June. On Saturday 7 June at 13:30 hours, a 30 minute SPA Regatta special will be broadcast on RTL 5.

PRIZE GIVING
As soon as the last race is over the prize giving will be held. Commercial Director Benelux of
SPA, Co Snijder, and Event Director Henri G C van der Aat will hand over the prizes.
PRESS CONFERENCE
The Royal Netherlands Yachting Union will give a press conference immediately after the prize giving.
The Dutch national sailing team will be there for interviews or other questions.
